Create a New Family Tradition at Hemingway Hill in Terrell, TX
With the promise of cooler temperatures finally here, it’s a sure sign the holiday season is just around the corner. It might be too soon to start singing Christmas carols, but it’s the perfect time to plan where you’ll get your Christmas tree—and what kind of tree you want.
If you’re dreaming of a big, beautiful tree, start early. The larger trees, especially the 9- and 10-foot ones, are always the first to go.
Sure, you can grab a tree at the grocery store while picking up milk, or toss one in your cart at a big-box retailer on your way to buy tools. But this year, why not do something more meaningful
Instead of a quick errand, make it an experience. Take your family to a farm and create a Christmas memory you’ll treasure for years.
At Hemingway Hill in Terrell, Texas, just 45 minutes from Dallas and 11 miles from Forney, you can find a beautiful, fresh Christmas tree and enjoy an old-fashioned holiday atmosphere. Picture this: roasting chestnuts, sipping warm cider, eating fresh apple cider donuts (the kind you’d find on a New York farm), and visiting our sheep wearing their Christmas sweaters—weather permitting, of course. That alone is worth the drive.
How Our Christmas Tree Experience Works
We’re a small, family-run farm, and while we aren’t a U-Pick Christmas tree farm, we do let you pick your favorite from our handsome selection of trees. We’ll handle the cutting for you so you can relax and take in the holiday spirit.
Because we’re small, our trees tend to sell out quickly. For the best selection, plan your visit for the weekend before or after Thanksgiving.
Hemingway Hill is open to the public during Christmas tree season from Thursday through Sunday, beginning Saturday, November 22 at 9:00 a.m. If Monday through Wednesday works better for your schedule, we’re happy to arrange a private appointment.
We also serve fresh apple cider donuts and other treats on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (weather permitting). And don’t forget to pick up a jar of our small-batch honey, harvested from our own hives and available only during Christmas and Tulip season.
A Farm Experience for Every Season
Hemingway Hill is all about hands-on farm experiences. While we’ll cut your Christmas tree for you, we also host two other public seasons each year:
- Tulipville (late February to mid-March): Explore acres of tulips, pick your own, and even take a few bulbs from Holland home with you.
- Sunflower Extravaganza (late May through July): Stroll through our open fields and pick any flower you like to create your own bouquet.
At Christmas, let us handle the cutting while you relax, enjoy the view, and take in a scene that feels straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting.
How to Plan Your Trip to Hemingway Hill
A little planning makes your visit even more enjoyable. Here are a few helpful tips before you head to the farm:
- Measure your space. Know the height and width of the area where your tree will go. Don’t forget to allow room for your favorite tree-top ornament.
- Find your tree stand. If yours is lost somewhere in the attic, we carry excellent stands from a Texas-based company and offer them at wholesale prices to our tree customers.
- Bring the right vehicle. The bigger, the better. We provide the rope and will wrap your tree in a protective mesh for easy transport.
- Enjoy a fresh cut. We’ll trim the base of your tree so it can drink water easily, and we’ll send you home with Oregon’s top tree preservative—complimentary with every tree.
- Stay awhile. Make free s’mores, enjoy coffee, and treat yourself to warm apple cider donuts and other seasonal goodies available only at Christmas.
- Take home our honey. Don’t miss our signature honey, harvested from Hemingway Hill’s private hives this past July. It’s rich, golden, and sold only at the farm.
